Academic goal

My 2010-2011 goal for DP1 A2 english is to improve on last years final grade. The biggest setback I had last year was missing too many of my classes which made it difficult to be consistent in my work. Another issue I had was time management. I left a fair amount of assignments to the last minute. I also did not use my class time wisely. These issues were reflected in my final grade for DP english.

Hopefully I will be able to attend most of my classes this year if everything goes as planed. I also hope to manage my time better than I did last year and I will make a better effort to try and stay more organized than I did last year. The outline of due dates will definitely help me because there will be less confusion on when assignments are due and what we will be working on through out the academic year.

Media is it important?

Yes is the right answer. Media is hugely important in every individuals life. Even more so if you are teenager. Media impacts us in many of ways. Two main  ways that it impacts us is on our political and social views. The media impacts us on our views as individuals on different world events. As international citizens it is vital to be enlightened about major world events.
In political terms media plays an astronomical role because politicians use media to there advantage to make a point or to portray them selfs in a positive  lens and their counter-part in a negative one. For example all the advertising and the speeches that were posted online during the last election in the US. Both Obama and McCain used the media to sway the public to vote for them.
The social side of the media mainly applies to teenagers that are still building and forming there own characters and personalities, which is the reason that they are so easily persuaded by the media. Shows like 90210 and The Hills can hugely influence their actions and choices of how to react in certain situations. Another example would be fashion trends like the new Free city brand. Because of the media portraying actresses like Vanessa Huchens wearing the brand it has made it the latest trend.

This can impact teenagers in a positive and negative way. That depends on the teenagers ability or inability to analyze the media as well as the individuals strength of character. The teenager can look at these shows and see that it is cool to do drugs and to speed, or can choose to view the negative outcome from these actions and choose not implement the same decisions in his or her life. The ability to analyze the media and to see what is fact and what is fiction is key to making the most of what the media can offer to and individuals life.

Media = Us

Look at any type of media and ask your self who created this, and why, what was his message? Then ask your self have I ever created an ad and posted it anywhere, or commented an a website, or even gossiped with my friends on facebook, twitter or Bbm? For most people in the world the answer is yes. If you are reading this blog right now the answer is probably yes. The millions of videos on youtube are videos we created. The pictures on Facebook and twitter are pictures of us. Wether you know it or not you are a part of the media. Everybody in the world contributes to the media.
All the posts on the internet wether its an article on a blog like this one, an ad, a gadget, video, comment and etc. is created by someone around the world and at one point or another that person could be you. Each contribution to the media has a message. Each contribution uses a different technique. It is important to remember that. We need to make use of the experiences of others through media. We need to learn the message that is expressed through the technique that the creator of the message has used as bate to lure you in, and with that you need to decide wether that is true or not.

iPad

Once again another innovative way to experience the media. Apple have gone above and beyond their customers expectations by creating the i-Pad. The i-Pad uses touch-screen technology that allows the user to navigate the web with ease and efficiency. The i-Pads main is to provide the user with a better way to experience media. Whether it is e-mail, news, websites, pictures and etc. The web has never been easier to use or to access more than it is today because of the i-Pad. With specific features like i-Books and safari to enhance the costumers experience. Using a different technique to access the internet will attract new costumers.
Some of the new techniques and features would include:
* Safari
*Spotlight search
* App store
*Mail
*iBooks
Apple created this device using different techniques than the traditional notebook or laptop to first of all to attract people, second of all so that it can help lots of different people with different lifestyles. For example to help students with research, or business men with e-mails and so fourth. They made the product to support people with different life styles, values and beliefs.

iPhone vs Blackberry

Four years ago the world of communication was controlled by four major mobile phone companies. Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, and Motorola. Those companies were the four major companies in the communication world. As of 2007 the new era of smart phones started to emerge.

Apple created the iPhone witch was like the iTouch ipod. The iPhone was not as big a success as it was prospected to be. There was a lot of hype from the media, that raised the expectation of the apple users. They expected it to be the perfect phone with all the features anyone would want and need. The actual product was not all that it was meant to be. It had many faults and was not as quick as it was meant to be. Apple took all of those faults and all the feedback from their users to create the iPhone 3Gs.

This iPhone so far is living up to the hype and the expectation of the apple audience. The iPhone has many features such as: high quality video in portrait or landscape mode, 3 megapixle camera, voice control, compass, cut, copy and paste feature, landscape keyboard and much more.

The iPhones biggest rival for now is Blackberry. Blackberry has more experience in creating smartphones. The Blackberry company is the most successful for creating smartphones by far. They have many models and generations of phones. Blackberry distibution has significantly increased sales of thier phones by double in the past year. Most of the increase has been in the middle east. Blackberry are working to create the perfectphone aswell. Thier most succcessful phones would be the Curve and the Bold. The most attractive features of the blackbbery would be the Blackberry mesneger (Bbm), internet everywhere, as well as downloading 0ther applications and programs.

Who will prevail will it be blackberry or apples iPhone. The media will most definitely have a big impact of which phone will be the next big hit. The biggest users will probably teens from 13-18 years old. If the marketing for the product can relate to what teens are looking for then the phone will be a success. Different techniques such as free trials or special offers can be used as advertising bate to lure in customers and then sell more phones. A multi-audience product is also important because you want to make sure that not only teens will want this phone but also business employees and etc. It is important to send out the message that the phone will have many qualities and features that will make life easier for business and for personal use. Features like internet, and e-mail would make life easier for business employees. Features like whats app for iPhone or bbm for blackberry would be a good feature for personal use.

Having the different messages is also important. Different messages shows that this product is intended for many uses and shows customers that you know what they are looking for. If the customers feel that they are understood they will buy your product. These messages can be shown on t.v, or heard an radio. Or it can be shared to the public in any way.

So will it be apple's iPhone 3Gs or Blackberry who will control the world of communication??

The Reds Vs. The Gunners

one of the most anticipated matches of the Barclays primer league. Liverpool aka the reds are the most decorated club in English football. This is a club that has a magnificent history, and is one of the top football clubs in the world. 18 league titles 5 European cups and 7 FA cups to their name.

Arsenal aka the gunners are also one of the worlds top football clubs. with a brilliant manager that has a brilliant tactical mind. arsenal have a great history that saw them win 15 league titles and 10 F.A cups. the only cup that arsenal have not got there hands on is the European cup, although they do participate in it.

this match has a great history and has produced some brilliant entertainment, and english primer league classic games along the way. last years match up was one of the classic matches. it was a thriller, ending in a 4-4 draw. Andre Arshavin aka the little russian scored all 4 goals for the gunners. while Fernando Torres aka el-nino scored 2 and Yossi Benayoun registered his name on the score sheet with the other 2 goals.

this match is highly anticipated and one of the main reasons it is highly anticipated is because of the amount of media each club gets. this is sometimes positive and other times not so much. the main reason the media is so attracted to these clubs playing against one another is because they have a galaxy of stars who can shine when playing well and create extraordinary entertainment by there use of game intelligence, and skills. all the media attraction can put pressure on these players who might not shine all the time after all they are humans. Because of all the media attraction everybody gets so hyped up and are expecting a really good match. that is not always the case. for example the last game that took place at Emirates stadium (Arsenals home ground) ended in a 1-1 draw with very little to get exited about during the 90 minutes.

the media plays a large part in the match and effects everybody that has access to media who are all of us. it can put an extra strain on the players which in turn will effect their performance. depending the the different players more media would be attracted to them if they are bigger stars. also there performance would depend on their individual ability to handle pressure.

H1N1 blown out of proportion

H1N1 in Kuwait was blown out of proportion. The flu was on every bodies mind in September through mid November. Media like advertisements on posters were hung up in schools and other public areas, as well advertisements on the t.v and radios. With all this attention on the flu and how to prevent it has scared the population. Everybody was so sensitive to things like hand shaking, traditional greetings, sneezing, coughing, washing there hands more frequently.
In other countries in Europe and etc there is no where near as much emphasises on the flu.I was in London for July and in south of France during August. during all of my time in Europe i did not see or hear anything about the flu or how dangerous it is. in Kuwait the government supported all the hype and had there own television adverts them-self's.
Kuwait is a fairly small country and gossip spreads like wild fire because every body has access to media. Basically all of Kuwait are victims of the media. almost all teenagers have blackberry's, an i-phone, or access to a t.v and laptops. with all this exposer to the media it is very easy to spread news and gossip.
This can be considered as positive or negative media. positive because the media is keeping every body alert about the flu and how to prevent it. it is also negative because it will cause un-needed fear.
